Merlo Cof­fee Coorparoo

Hooray for Merlo Cof­fee lovers on the south side! They have finally opened a tor­refazione (Ital­ian for roast­ing house) in Coor­pa­roo. Of course being the cof­fee con­nois­seurs that we are at Bris­bane Bites, we couldn’t say no to the invi­ta­tion of their grand opening.

When we arrived, we were greeted with empty cof­fee tins and directed to counter where we could have our pick of blends. We were in heaven.

They had eight blends to choose from plus a flavour of the month, which was Ethiopia Guji.

The staff there were kind enough to quickly whip us up an espresso using the Ethiopia Guji blend to let us taste the com­plex­ity of it. It was an inter­est­ing blend. Smooth with a hint of blueberry.

Don’t be fooled into think­ing that the friendly baris­tas at Coor­pa­roo Merlo Cof­fee are all play and no work. They take their jobs very seriously.

We saw the obvi­ous dis­sat­is­fac­tion on the face of one barista as the espresso she was mak­ing was not of the qual­ity she expected. Men­tion­ing that the water was fil­ter­ing out too fast, she dis­carded the cup and ground another cup of beans to make the per­fect espresso for one of the wait­ing guests.

Now that is what we call qual­ity service!
