Mr Burger & Fish — Indooroopilly
Mr Burger & Fish– Indooroopilly
Peak hour traffic is a killer. It’s tiring and frustrating to say the least. However, being the optimist that I am, I sometimes like to think of the standstill traffic as an opportunity to be aware and notice one’s surroundings. You never know, you might find a hidden gem!
One morning as I plodded along Indooroopilly’s peak-hour Moggill road, I noticed the bright new orange signage for the recently opened “Mr Burger & Fish”: a fish, chips and take-away joint with a twist!
Soon after, the Brisbane Bites team checked it out and got to informally interview owner/chef Mr Matt Kim (formerly of Decks Seafood Restaurant, South Bank) which gave insight into what made his store different from the others.

The main difference is in the menu. Comprising traditional fish and chips items, Mr Burger & Fish also capitalizes on Mr Kim’s chef background in restaurants and hotels to extent the menu to include fresh egg pasta dishes, burgers and and a rotating feature menu. The feature item for the months of May and June 2012 is the Asian stir-fry noodles.
Mr Burger & Fish is located on a strip of stores with parking in front of the store (only accessible when driving on Moggill road going outbound to Kenmore). Despite being on a major road, the night time ambiance is not too bad and the outdoor dining option was appreciated. They even had cute umbrellas and little plants to go on the tables! Inside, there is an almost odd combination of bright orange paint job, textured fixtures and AstroTurf, but at least it is unique and homely looking!
What we had
Spaghetti Bolognese — $9.90
It was amazing. There was a beautiful rich tomato base with plenty of minced beef and not too many onions (which overruns cheap take-away meals usually). They used fresh egg pasta and you can tell. It was garnished with parmesan cheese and parsley. The amazing thing about it was that the taste was on par if not better than the Italian restaurants I have been to recently. Not only that, but it was $9.90!

Spaghetti Carbonara — $9.90
Rich and creamy sauce of bacon, mushroom, onion, garlic with fresh egg pasta. Very, Very impressive for a take-away and for the price! Dining in-store, the presentation was pleasing too.
1 crumbed fish, 4 calamari rings, 2 whiting fish pieces, 2 potato scallops, large chips, lemon slices and sauces (aioli and mayonnaise) Extremely good value. The fish was fresh (not fishy) and there was plenty of variety in the pack. This dish is probably intended for two diners.
Crumbed, fried sausage, caramelized onion, grilled mixed cabbage, backed beans and buttered sweet corn. The dish was well presented and the toppings are not the average hot dog fillings, but worked well none-the-less, with a nice array of colours and textures in a bite. The only negative point was that the bun was cut all the way through, so the sausage could easily fall out if you picked it up. But this was easily remedied by eating with knife and fork.
What we thought

Mr Burger & Fish is outstanding value and surprisingly good quality. The fish is fresh, the chips are crunchy and the pastas are definitely restaurant quality. The service is friendly and efficient and the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and appreciated as a customer.
