No No’s Lebanese Food– Red Hill

Brisbane city Dining Guide - No No Lebanese Food
Cheap, delicious and non-fuss. No No’s Lebanese Food is pretty much a food institution in the inner city suburb of Red Hill.

No No’s is renowned for their kebabs. They differ from the popular food court variety in that you won’t find one of those jumbo meat rotisseries being heated for whoever knows how long.

No No’s uses real meat pieces instead of processed shaved meat and it makes a big difference, particularly in the texture department.

They also offer a selection of Middle Eastern appetizers (fried eggplant, vine wraps, zucchini omelet and lamb kebis etc) as well as an impressive sweets selection.

No No’s is both a take-away and a dine in. There are simple, casual seats inside and outside so you can tuck into your food right away.

They also sell a selection of dips and produce for home cooking.

The Brisbane Bites team would like to return to try the meat and/or vegetarian platter, which was ordered by another customer at the time and looked absolutely amazing!

What we had

Chicken kebab — garlic marinated chicken breast pieces on pita breast toasted with tahini sauce, lettuce, tomato and a swipe of garlic sauce — $8.50
There was definitely a LOT of meat in this dish which represents good value for money. The meat on this particular occasion was slightly dry (probably owning to using breast meat exclusively). The size of the meal was decent and it was presented well.

Kebbi kebab -  lamb with crushed wheat ad onion on pita bread, hummus, lettuce, tomato, taboulie and onion dressed with tahini sauce — $9.00

Again, there was a lot of meat in this dish and the size of the meal was very generous. The texture of the kebbi was a bit odd for the uninitiated owing to the crushed wheat component. In terms of the taste of the kebab, we much preferred this dish to the chicken kebab.

Baklava, Lady Finger Baklava & Birds Nest Backlava  — $3/each

This was pretty decent baklava. There was just the right amount of sweetness and the pastry was still flakey and crispy despite the syrupy goodness on top. Although all three are still baklava, we preferred the Birds Nest as it was an interesting shape visually and would plate well for functions and parties (No No’s does catering as well).

Ranking

Brisbane Bites Recommendation:OK

What we think

No No’s offers Lebanese food for a good price with a no-fuss attitude. The food was overly salty for our tastes and there was perhaps a little more than a “lashing” of garlic on the food (perhaps slightly embarrassing when someone could tell I had garlicky food for lunch… so please do remember to bring your breath mints!). There was a lot of meat in the meals and the sizes are decent.
